Can We Choose Our Own Music for Our Wedding Video?

Short answer: yes, you can choose any music you want.
But there are two options, and it's important to know the difference between them.

Music Is a Big Part of Your Film

Music sets the mood, pace, and emotion of your wedding highlight film. I started out editing music videos, so building a story around music is a big part of how I work as a wedding videographer.

The music isn't just background noise; it shapes how you feel when you watch your day again.

Option 1: Commercial Songs (Your Favourite Track)

If you have a specific song in mind, whether it's personal, meaningful, or part of your story, I'm happy to use it.

However:

  • Your film can't be shared on social media or video platforms like YouTube, Instagram, or Vimeo.
  • It becomes a private viewing film only.
  • I don't post it on my channels.
  • Responsibility for any copyright issues sits with the couple.

This option works well when the film is mainly for you and your close family.

Option 2: Licensed / Royalty-Free Music (Recommended)

This is what I usually encourage.

Licensed music lets you share your wedding video online, watch it anywhere, and keep it for years without any problems.

There's also a creative reason I prefer this option:

Popular songs age.
The same track can mean different things at different stages of life, or become tied to trends or memories unrelated to your wedding.

A carefully chosen licensed song stays special to your film. Even years later, hearing it will bring you right back to your wedding day.

I build the mood based on:

  • The atmosphere I felt at your wedding
  • The energy of the day
  • The type of emotion you describe

I've never had complaints about licensed music. Couples often end up loving songs they hadn't heard before.

A Good Balance

Even if you choose a commercial song for your main highlight film, your wedding trailer will always use licensed music so it can be shared freely.

This way, you have something you can share online and something personal just for yourselves.

In the End

You get to pick the music that matters most to you. My job is to make sure it fits emotionally, legally, and creatively.

Music isn't just added at the end; it's one of the main foundations of your wedding story.
